New Orleans

Well, we’re back!!  We’ve actually been back for a day already, but yesterday was rest/catch up day.  We picked up the puppies and unpacked and whatnot.

The first part of our vacay was to New Orleans!  We flew down the day before our cruise to hang out there a bit.  I had only been there once, but it was when I was really little so I don’t really remember much.  Justin had never been at all!  We had soooo much fun, I’m ready to go back already!  We were only there a day and a half, so we didn’t get to do everything we wanted to.  We did get to do and eat lots!  There is some amazing food in N.O.!!!  And I don’t think I had a single healthy thing while I was there, lol.  We don’t really get to go on trips very often so when we do we kinda pig out a bit.  I wasn’t about to let some of this awesome food slip by me just because it wasn’t very good for me.

So we landed around 11-ish and hopped in a shuttle to our hotel (Dauphine Orleans Hotel).  We got all checked in (they were so nice and let us check in really early- check in wasn’t supposed to be until 3).  This. place. was. awesome!!!  I highly highly recommend this hotel!  It’s a fun little boutique hotel and it’s right in the french quarter (about a block from bourbon street).  The people were so nice and the bed was sooooooo soft!  (I’m not joking- most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in in my life).  The rooms were very nice as well- it still had the feeling of the old building that it was (1812 I think was when it was built), but it was very modern as well.

Then it was on to find some lunch and do some exploring.  We tried to offset some of the major amounts of calories we knew we were about to consume with lots and lots of walking.  We walked miles just exploring the area.  The buildings were awesome to look at.  And the feel of the place was very exciting!

For lunch we sought out the place that is famous for the invention of the Mufaletta sandwich.  Or so they say, lol.  It was in this tiny little market.  The place was neat, but the sandwich was the star of the show!  OMG so good!!  We split a half sandwich and it was plenty(they’re really big).  And some chipses.

Then there was lots more walking while we digested.  We went over to Jackson square and looked around.  It was really pretty and very peaceful despite the bustle of the busy area that surrounds it.

Then it was BEIGNET time!!!!  I have been waiting for this part since we decided to go to N.O.!  I was NOT disappointed!  I dream about these things now and I want to go back just for these!  I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves…

I even got some coffee to take home with me!  I had some this morning- it’s fab!  I love the little bite that the chicory gives it!

Then back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.  We decided to go to the ACME oyster house.  It was too hard to decide where to go because there are so many places that are supposed to be amazing, so we just picked a place at random.

Then we took a little walk down Bourbon Street before heading back to the hotel.  It was an early night but it was such a long day that we were pooped!
