Foodbuzz Blogger Festival 2012: Part 2

Last time I talked about Friday’s events for the Foodbuzz blogger festival, so today I’ll wrap up the rest of the festival.  The next post after that will be some more sightseeing pictures.  I didn’t want to overload one post with too many pictures and I took a lot of great sightseeing pictures so I thought that I would give them their own post!

Saturday was a quick breakfast and then on to the sessions!

The first session was a general session featuring a panel of bloggers about taking your blog to the next level.  To be honest I didn’t really know who very many of these people were, but I did know who that second lady from the left was- one of my favorite people, Mama Pea!!

And she brought enough cookie dough balls for the whole class!

IMG_5324IMG_5325

Then it was on to some break out sessions!

The first session I took was about getting your DSLR out of auto mode.  Ashley lead the session and she did a great job.  I learned a lot about some of the more intimidating aspects of a DSLR and I feel a lot more confident about using my fancy pants camera now!  She’s posting a lot of the info from the session on her blog right now if you want to follow along!

The next session I went to was all about Adobe Lightroom and it was lead by Marc.  This was SO great.  I’ve had lightroom for a while but I’ve only used the basics like brighten, white balance, and sharpen.  It’s pretty daunting if you have no idea what you’re doing, but Marc really helped talk us through all the steps from start to finish when editing a photo using lightroom.  It was great and I took a lot of info away from the session.  As soon as this insanely stressful week is over I can’t wait to get in the kitchen and get to cooking and taking pictures with all my newfound knowledge!

Next was the Tastemaker Pavilion.  Oh. My. Goodness. There were so many vendors with so many samples.  I was SO full by the time I left!  Here are just a few pictures (it was hard to take pics with my hands and my mouth full of food!)

IMG_5341IMG_5350

The first thing we see when we walk in the door- a table full of chocolate!!!

IMG_5342IMG_5343IMG_5344IMG_5346

Sabra is my favorite hummus (p.s. I got a coupon for a freebie from them, there will be a recipe coming soon featuring Sabra!)

IMG_5347IMG_5348

This gin was SO good!

IMG_5353IMG_5354

Tyler Florence was there signing autographs but Foodbuzz did NOT do a good job letting us know he was there- by the time I heard they had already cut off the autograph line.  I was not a happy camper!

IMG_5356IMG_5368

IMG_5366IMG_5359IMG_5361IMG_5362IMG_5365IMG_5364

Baby cupcakes!  Can’t go wrong with that!!

IMG_5352

View from the balcony of the Tastemaker Pavillion- beautiful!

IMG_5372IMG_5369IMG_5370IMG_5371

Then I headed back to the hotel for a nap before the Gala Dinner.  Very very bad idea.  I woke up very groggy and looking super zombie face.  I was dragging all evening and it definitely showed!

Hey, remember that time I said I walked right up to Mama Pea and introduced myself?  Horrible awful zombieface picture of me, BLAH!!!  But I had to show it because that’s my proof!  She was so sweet and just let me gush over how much I loved her cookbook and didn’t run away screaming when I made a beeline for her as soon as our eyes met. Love this lady!  Hopefully next year I can get a little more sleep so I can get a better picture with her!

Tyler Florence cooking demo!

IMG_5383IMG_5388IMG_5394

There were some unpictured vegetable samosas and bread for appetizers while we watched the cooking demo.  And wine.  Lots and lots of wine.  Then dinner was served! The salad had some sort of blue cheese vinaigrette but I wasn’t really interested in it so I just ate the pears. (really, only ONE dressing can be offered?!)

And the barley risotto with roasted vegetables looks kind of plain but it was AMAZING!!!

IMG_5396IMG_5397

The best part of dinner was new friends of course!

Me and Betsy (I totally stole both of these pics from your blog- since I‘m in them I’m hoping you won’t mind too much!)

Me, Betsey, and Anna.

Loved chatting with these ladies.  I had SUCH a blast (even though I was a zombie face!).  After the Gala Dinner was over I headed back up to my room and faceplanted right into my pillow!

I just cannot say enough what an amazing time I had.  And also I cannot say enough how much I can’t wait for next year!

Come back tomorrow to see some amazing walking around San Francisco pictures!!

Foodbuzz Blogger Festival 2012

Hey friends!  My life is fairly stressful right now.  It’s crunch time in school.  You know that point in the semester where there are eleventy billion projects due and several tests all in the same week?  I haven’t blogged in almost 2 weeks and I feel horrible!  Especially since I had the amazing opportunity to go to the foodbuzz blogger festival last weekend and had THE most amazing time!

Foodbuzz is a community of foodies and it is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been a part of!  I’ve not taken full advantage of the greatness of foodbuzz even though I’ve been part of it for almost 3 yrs now.  This is all about to change very soon!  I’ll be re-focusing my blog and I’m getting a blog redesign very very soon.  As soon as that rolls out I’ll explain more about why I’m changing the focus of my blog.  I’m super excited about this and I can’t wait!!

Last year I saw everyone’s pictures and read all about the Foodbuzz blogger festival and I just knew that I had to try to go this year.  As soon as the email came out I grabbed my ticket!!

You guys I had the most amazing time at this and I met some of the most amazing people!  I’m SO SO happy that I was able to be a part of this!  This was not like another blogger conference that I went to this summer- that one was very cliquey and it felt like everyone was trying to “one-up” each other the whole time and they only talked about how awesome their blog was and how much traffic their blog got.  I wish I was kidding about that.  It was like we were all equals here.  There was no I’m a big blogger so I’m better than you and your tiny blog feeling.  I felt completely comfortable just walking up and talking to anyone there.  In fact I did- I walked right up to Mama Pea and introduced myself and chatted with her.  We’re totally BFF now by the way. Winking smile  (she probably thought I was a crazy person but she was sooooo nice- I totally have a crush on her!).  There was no talk about numbers of readers or how much money anyone makes off their blogs.  There was only talk of amazing food, amazing recipes, beautiful pictures, great friends, and making your blog the best you can make it!  I loved every minute of this conference.

Now to some pictures!

Laura and I got to San Francisco on Thursday evening and had a little dinner(we went to a place called E&O Trading Co.  SO good!), then walked around a bit and ended up at the Ferry Building, then headed back to the hotel to sleep off a little jetlag.

Friday morning we grabbed some oatmeal and coffee at Starbucks and Laura headed out to an open house for a Dietetic Internship (which she said was really amazing, so I may have to go check it out next year when I’m looking at internships!).  After she left I walked to Trader Joes and bought some goodies (we don’t have one here in TX yet, but it’s been confirmed that we will be getting one in Ft. Worth in the spring, yipee!)  Then I headed back to the hotel and checked in for the conference.  We got a nice little swag bag with lots of goodies in it.

IMG_5272IMG_5273IMG_5275IMG_5276

Then Michelle got there!!!  Love that crazy girl!  We chatted it up waiting for Laura to get done with her open house, then met her for lunch and went walking around SF taking some pictures!

IMG_5304

Look at this hill!!  We totally climbed up it and I almost died twice! Winking smile

IMG_5278

IMG_5279IMG_5281IMG_5290IMG_5295IMG_5294IMG_5293IMG_5299IMG_5300

Then it was time for me to get ready for the welcome reception and dinner!  When I first got there I felt a little awkward because I didn’t know anyone.  I was just about to get the courage up to go talk to a random person when Betsy walked right up to me and said hi.  We ended up hanging out and talking all evening!  Go check out her blog- she’s amazing!!

Dinner…

IMG_5320IMG_5305IMG_5306IMG_5307IMG_5308IMG_5310IMG_5311IMG_5312IMG_5314IMG_5317IMG_5318IMG_5319

My dinner consisted mostly of beet ravioli (sounds weird, but it was amazing) and lentil salad(which I’m going to have to recreate STAT!).  I have no idea what the little desserts were but I had a bite of each of them.  The pumpkin-y one in the back was the best.

Saturday’s events coming up in my next post, so stay tuned!!

Uptown 5 Mile Race

Hey guys and gals!

Another race recap here!  Last weekend I ran the Uptown 5 Mile race in downtown Dallas.  Laura was originally going to run the 13.1 Dallas Half Marathon but she’s recovering from an injury and rebuilding her mileage so she offered me her bib for the 5 miler.

The course went through uptown Dallas, along a bit of the Katy Trail, and through downtown Dallas.  I couldn’t have asked for a better day for a race.  The weather was absolutely perfect.  The scenery was amazing along the course and I had an amazing run!

The first 4 miles were pretty easy.  I just trotted along and enjoyed the scenery- and saw parts of Dallas that I hadn’t seen before.  Once I got to the Katy Trail I almost got run over by a roller blader (do people still roller blade??) who got pissed at me for being in his way.  Ummmm… okaaay.  I think the hardest part of the race was the last mile, which was completely UPHILL!  Gah, I do NOT understand why race planners do this!  It was torture!  My time ended up being 59: 37 which is pretty darn good for me!

          imageimage

I also learned the significance of wearing proper socks during this race.  Look what happened! Sad smile

2011-10-22 08.25.05

Ouch!  I do have proper running socks, but they weren’t clean so I just grabbed the first pair of socks I came across that morning when I was getting ready.  Big mistake, definitely learned a lesson!

Stina and Laura’s cousin Jennifer were there running the half marathon.  Total badasses!  I’m SO proud of those two!!!

10.24.11-051

That’s one good looking group of ladies!

I do have some complaints about my race though… I have to say the 5 miler was quite obviously not important at all to the race planners.  The whole 5 mile race felt like a complete afterthought.  There were booths and entertainment set up for the half marathon portion but none of that was going on for the 5 miler.  I felt like they made it fairly obvious that the 5 mile race didn’t really matter all that much.  And the race was also longer than 5 miles.  I stopped my Garmin at 5.2 and I still wasn’t at the finish line.  I’d say the course was probably like 5.3-5.4?  I had a good run, but I would probably not do this race again.  I don’t think I’ve ever felt so insignificant in my life. I definitely don’t like feeling like that, so why should I give them my money in the future for it- know what I mean?

Anyhoo- Just about another month until my half marathon and I am SO freaking excited!  I had a glorious 8 mile run yesterday that left me super pumped me up for the race!

Later gators!

Foodie Penpals, part 1

Hey guys!

I signed up for something called Foodie Penpals this month after hearing Laura talk about it.  It sounded like it could be really neat so I decided to sign up for it!

I got Sara for a foodie penpal and sent her a few Texas goodies- some organic goods from Central Market (dark chocolate, pumpkin seed flatbread crackers), some jalapeno beer bread mix from a farm in Fredricksburg, and some coconut water (not local but it’s one of my favorite things so I like to share the coconut water love when I can!).  Sara doesn’t have a blog, but I’m hoping she’ll do a guest post for me soon!

And Hannah from Sirenical got me as a penpal!  I got my first foodie penpal goodies yesterday in the mail from Hannah and oh my goodness!!!  Hannah is awesome and seriously spoiled me!

Hannah is from Vermont so she sent me all kinds of goodies from her state!  Here’s what I got…

IMG_5248

I literally squealed when I opened the package!  And I’m totally one of those people that have to open everything and try it as soon as I get it.  So I have totally already tried everything!

Hand made earrings and bracelet!  So pretty!

IMG_5249

Speaking of hand made… home made applesauce!!  I’m going to have to fight Justin for this one- he’s an applesauce fiend!

IMG_5261IMG_5265

Super sweet post cards with a recipe and a hand written note from Hannah!

IMG_5252

IMG_5254IMG_5255

Crackers, which I immediately used to dip into some of the other goodies that she sent!

IMG_5262

Maple Pumpkin Butter!  Swoon!  I’m already trying to figure out how to get more of this for when I run out!

IMG_5259

IMG_5264IMG_5266

And apple cider honey mustard!  ZOMG!  I can’t wait to dunk baby carrots in this!  NOM!

IMG_5257IMG_5263

And these little maple candies??  Like crack!  So good that they’re already gone!

IMG_5256

Thank you so much Hannah- you are the BEST!!!

World Series!!!!!

Hey guys!  This week has been so busy busy busy!  Projects to finish, a paper to write, another assignment to finish, and a test to study for!  But it’s slowing down just a bit- one of the projects is finished, the paper and the assignment are done, and I made a 94 on my test!  Huzzah!

Guess what we did this past weekend?  We went to the World Series!!!  (or as some of my fav DJs on the sports station I listen to on the radio are calling it… the World Effing Series!)

2011-10-23 12.42.43

You guys I LOVE baseball!!  And I also love the Rangers!  I’ve been going to games for as long as I can remember.  And I’ve honestly never cared that the Rangers hadn’t been to the World Series.  They’re my team win or lose.  But It’s still super exciting that they’ve gone to the World Series two years in a row!

We couldn’t afford to go to any of the playoff games last year, but this year I knew that I had to get tickets as soon as they went on sale.  So I was online the second they went on sale.  I stood in e-line for 4 hours waiting to buy my tickets.  And as soon as I printed those bad boys out I was so happy.  I think I smiled the whole rest of the day!

So on Sunday we got there super early so that we wouldn’t have to fight traffic since there was also a Cowboys game and the stadiums are right next door to each other.  So we picked up some food at whole foods and had a little picnic!

2011-10-23 13.41.542011-10-23 14.26.302011-10-23 14.23.402011-10-23 14.28.13

You guys!  Whole Foods has this Chia bread and it’s freaking AMAZING!!! I got the veganize me sandwich and it was so freaking good!  Next time I get it I’m going with mustard though- I’m not a big mayo fan.

2011-10-23 14.57.39

It’s not a picnic without a cookie!!  (or 3 or 4, haha!)

While we munched we listened to the Cowboys game on the radio.  I don’t like football so that was pretty torturous for me.  At least I had cookies. Winking smile

Then they opened the gates to the stadium, so in we went!

2011-10-23 15.54.56

Watched the guys warm up a bit…

Then headed up to our seats with a beer in hand!

Our seats weren’t as high up as I thought they were going to be.

The game was AWESOME!!!!!  Rangers won!  4-0.  And Napoli was of course a total badass!  And Holland’s pitching was on fire!  (P.S. my prediction from as soon as I knew they were going has been Rangers in 6.  I’m sticking with that one!  Though I wouldn’t turn my nose up at Rangers in 7, lol!)

These are the faces of two very happy Rangers fans!

GO RANGERS!
