My first 10K

I meant to post this yesterday since it was national running day, but I got a little busy and ran out of time!

On Memorial Day I did my very first ever 10K!!!  It was crazy and amazing at the same time!  I had a couple of goals for this race… 1)Don’t die, 2)Finish, and 3)Finish in under an hour and a half.  And I definitely met all three of those goals!  My time was 1:24:54.  It felt soooo awesome to cross that finish line!

The course was crazy with some INSANE hills!!!  And around mile 5 my stomach started growling like crazy. Oops- nutrition fail!

So I met Laura, her boyfriend Matt, and her cousin Jennifer there.  Heather and Nicci were also there!

Heather, Laura, and Nicci did the 5K.

And Matt, Jennifer and I did the 10K.

Top 10 running songs

I Red heart running right now!

And the best part I think is blasting some awesome music and just totally rocking out in my head. (not out loud lest people think I’m completely insane, LOL!)  There’s just something about putting on a fast paced song and moving my feet to the beat that I love!

So I thought it might be super fun to share my top 10 running songs as I just finished a 4 mile run!  Let’s get right to it, shall we?

#10- Tik Tok, Ke$ha
She may not be the best singer in the world, but I love having this song on my running playlist.  It’s always the first song as I start to run because it’s not super fast, but it does get me pumped for my run!

#9- Get Sexy, Sugababes
Love love love this song!  And it’s got a great tempo to follow the first song!

#8- Fat Bottomed Girls, the GLEE version
I know, I know.  But I love this song and I’m not sure why.  The Queen version is great, but the GLEE version is better for running.

#7- Can’t Touch This, MC Hammer
I’m so not kidding, this is a great song to run to!  And it makes me remember my elementary school days fondly and how totally cool we thought we were doing the MC Hammer dances out on the playground in our parachute pants and Reeboks.  C’mon- you wore them too, admit it!!!

#6- The Time Warp (Remix), from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
First of all, if you’ve never seen this- shame on you!  Go rent it.  Now!  Second of all- the remix part is important because it keeps a steady beat the whole time and there is no stopping/starting like there is in the regular version of the song.  It’s got a great beat and it just makes me want to dance!

#5- Paris (Ooh La La)- Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
This is a new fav.  I’m totally obsessed with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals right now, and this is a GREAT running song!

#4- Run (Natural Disaster), Gnarls Barkley
Maybe one of the greatest running songs ever.  It’s got a great tempo, and even speeds up as the song progresses.  And if you’re like me and like to run to the tempo of a song, this song is great for making you run faster!

#3- Girlfriend, Avril Levigne
Hey, hey.  You, you.  I don’t like your girlfriend.  Love this song!

#2- What the Hell, Avril Levigne
What can I say, her songs are great to run to!

#1- Pump It, Black Eyed Peas
This is my absolute favorite pump-me-up and get-me-moving song!!!  It makes me want to pump my fists in the air (like I just don’t care?)

Honorable Mention… Gonna Fly Now (Theme from “Rocky”)

This song’s not exactly on the list but should get a mention.  I don’t really care to listen to the whole song when I’m running, but if I’m running a race, as soon as I see that finish line I like to put this song on and imagine how awesome it’s going to feel crossing that finish line!

Hope you enjoyed my list- have a great day!

April Goals

March was mostly a bust when it came to my goals.  Though I did get some running in- about 20 miles, so that’s not tooooo shabby.

But April is a new fabulous month and I’m feeling great (see yesterday’s post).  And I have some great goals for myself!

Exercise:
Now that I’m exercising so much I decided to push my goals a bit farther this month.  So I created a fitness challenge for myself for the month (a la Laura).  I’ll be posting that tomorrow!

Food:

This month I want to focus on nourishing my body more.  I kind of ate like crap last month.  I also had waaaay too much caffeine.  My goal is to cut my caffeine intake in half- I’m doing 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular coffee and I’m limiting my coffee intake to only 1-2 cups in the morning.  I plan on drinking a lot more juice and getting in a lot more greens this month.

School:

Now that I’ve dropped my super duper sucktastic class I will have more time to devote to pulling up my food microbiology grade.  I’m absolutely confident I can make an A in this class.  Right now I’m sitting on a low B, but the best thing about Dr. Gilman’s classes is the fact that she lets you drop a test grade.  And she gives extra credit opportunities.  We’ve only had two tests so far so I think I’ll be just fine.  But I still plan on rocking the tests this month!

Goals:

I know it seems weird to have a goals post within a post about goals, but we all know that I’m a little weird by now, haha!  I’m going to start doing weekly goals for myself just because I make goals at the beginning of the month and they seem to fizzle out by the middle of the month.  I think making weekly goals will help keep them fresh in my mind and ultimately help me meet them!

So those are my goals for the month.  I’m sure I’ll be posting weekly goals soon!  Does anyone else make weekly or monthly goals for themselves?  I used to not do it, but I found that even if I don’t meet all of my goals it feels really good to push myself to go farther and I think it’s helping me become a better person!

Till tomorrow….
